BREEDING & KEEPING OF ANIMALS IN THE CITY

The public of Port Moresby is reminded that keeping of animals and birds within residential premises in the city is an offence and is punishable by law.

Section 5 of the Public Health (Sanitation and General) Regulation Chapter 226 states;

 

  1. A person who, without the written consent of the Local Medical Authority, keeps any animal, other than a cat or dog, or permits any such animal to be kept, on his premises within a distance of 15m from a dwelling, hospital, or school building is guilty of an offence.

 

 (2)    A person who, in a place to which this Part applies, keeps a pig is guilty of an offence.

 

NCDC is greatly concerned with the increasing activity of BREEDING & KEEPING Animals & Birds within residential premises in the City. This activity is a risk to public health and is restricted in the city.

The Public is hereby advised that, 21 days from the date of publication of this notice & forthwith any animals found in public areas and residential premises will be confiscated and putdown (slaughtered) and owners will be prosecuted.

All residents are encourage to co - operate with NCDC and refrain from such activities. Residents are also requested to report any one in breach of this public health requirement by contacting the telephone numbers below. All information will be kept confidential.
