Community and Social Services Department is responsible for social services and includes Health, Education, Waste Management, Parks and public amenities, cross-cutting social issues of Youth, Gender, Family Sexual Violence, Sports and Urban Safety.

The unprecedented development challenges triggered by economic boom and population growth in the last 10 years has challenged the department’s institutional capacity and resources to effectively manage and sustain social changes and outcomes. The current trend of development in the social sector is also influenced by conflicting traditional cultures and introduced concepts in the midst of a thriving economic climate Port Moresby is experiencing.

    Dear NCDC,

I am becoming seriously concerned with the increase in fast-food and roadside markets as well as make shift manufacturers who are producing or preparing food for public consumption. There are seriously many cases of food poisoning in various communities that are unreported. Many fast-food outlets are preparing food using materials not fit for human consumption, there are roadside markets that are not protecting their foods from foreign materials during selling, there are products produced from materials obtained from unknown sources, e.t.c.

Reading Joel Kolem's article in The National of 21st August 2014, I wish to know if there is a workshop looking into food safety in PNG currently (or up coming), and find out what measures there are and if they are effectively operating to control food safety and control direct food handling measures which will make food available to the public. Please revert to me on this matter so I compare how things are in Lae.
