Governor Parkop Welcomes New Motu Koita Representative To NCDC Board

National Capital District Commission has officially welcomed Mr. Udia Opao, the Motu Koita Assembly representative for Tatana, to the NCDC Board of Directors. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop.

Governor Parkop highlighted the importance of strong leadership in managing Port Moresby, noting the unique challenges faced by the Motu Koita people as they navigate rapid social and cultural transitions.

“While much of Papua New Guinea has experienced gradual change, the people of Motu Koita have witnessed the transformation of Port Moresby at a fast pace. This transition has deeply impacted their cultural heritage and way of life,” Governor Parkop said.

He emphasized that Mr. Opao’s appointment ensures the voices of the Motu Koita community are well represented.

“Mr. Udia brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership that will guide us in serving the people of Motu Koita,” Governor Parkop stated.

Mr. Opao, who previously served as Chairman of the Motu Koitabu Council until 2009 and contributed to the Hiri Moale Festival committee, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

He reflected on the 2008 amendment to the Motu Koitabu Council Act, which established the Motu Koita Assembly.

“It is an honour to be part of the NCDC Board, and I look forward to working with the Commission to deliver services to the people of Motu Koita,” Mr. Opao said.

The NCDC Board is chaired by Governor Parkop, with Motu Koita Assembly Chairman Russell Wavik as Deputy Chairman. Other members include representatives from the business sector, churches, women’s groups, and the Motu Koita Assembly.
