NCDC-funded Refresher Course Aims To Raise Boxing Officiating Standards
NCDC funded a three-day referees and judges refresher course at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
The course, aimed at strengthening officiating standards and preparing officials for upcoming boxing competitions saw 14 officials from the NCD Boxing Association and Hiri Koiari Boxing Association participate.
Facilitator and PNG Boxing Union technical delegate, Mr. Kazu Temu, said the initiative is to ensure referees and judges are up-to-date with international boxing rules, regulations, and scoring standards.
“The goal is to raise standards in officiating and ensure our officials are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to make fair decisions in the ring,” Mr. Temu said.
The training covered competition management, health and hygiene requirements, ring setup, officiating procedures, rules and regulations, scoring criteria, and practical assessment exercises.
Participants will put their knowledge into practice during the NCDBA Inter Club Challenge at Koki Fitness Centre tomorrow, where officials will be assessed as part of the course's practical component.
The competition will also serve as a selection platform for Team NCD boxers preparing for the PNG Games and the National Boxing Championships scheduled for September in Goroka.
