18th Aug, 20

Oil Search Managing Director Peter Botten was treated to an affectionate send-off at the NCD Governor’s Gala Ball 2020 this month.

Mr Botten, who has clocked more than 27 years on the job, is retiring on 25 August, 2020. Botten was the Guest Speak during the event in appreciation of the ongoing partnership the municipal government and the company has had through which it has partly played a key role in transforming the city. The company board has announced that Botten will be succeeded as Managing Director by Dr Keiran Wulff.

Speaking at the event, NCD Governor Powes Parkop paid tribute to him as a role model for many. “Before I get into my speech, I would like to, firstly, honor a man in this room, who is a role model to many of us. You heard him speak and we watched a video of his accomplishment. “Mr. Peter Botten, you are a great asset to Papua New Guinea and I would like to personally thank you for all your contributions, including to this Gala Ball,” said Mr Parkop.

He said all proceeds from the fundraising dinner will go towards continuing the great work of Bel Isi PNG in creating safety at work place and to all similar organizations providing safety, refuge and a place of recovery to victims of all forms of violence. “Peter, thank you. We wish you all the best on your onward journey and thank you for all that we have achieved together in Port Moresby,” he said. Botten, in his speech, said he has worked in partnership with 11 governments, eight Prime Ministers and 5 different company chairmen.

He said his stay in the country ‘has been fantastic for myself and my family, and it’s wonderful when my kids come back to PNG.’ He further said the city has been transformed.
