City Hall welcomes plastic ban by government

18th Aug, 20

Second to betel-nut spittle, single-use shopping plastic bags and other plastic products have been a menace to the cleanliness of the city and entire nation.

It has also done significant pollution to the environment and marine life. The Municipal Government led by Governor Powes Parkop and its administration has welcomed the ban. The total ban should have been effective on February 02, but its deadline was extended again by 45 days.

That means it came into force on March 16. The extension will give breathing space to the manufacturers and suppliers to settle down with alternative options to maintain the status quo of nationwide distribution or to avoid supply shortages of the alternatives. Almost all the city residents our reporters spoke with have supported the National Government-initiated ban.
