GOVERNOR PARKOP COMMENDS THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT AND HER PEOPLE FOR FUNDING HOSPITAL

PORT MORESBY-Wednesday 26th, April 2023: NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop has thanked the people of Australia and their Government for funding a level-three health centre at Hanuabada village in #AmazingPortMoresby.

The proposed Metoreia Health Centre scheduled to be completed in 16 months or mid-2024, will feature two wings- an outpatient Wing for TB Clinic, Dental Clinic, HIV/AIDS clinic, Cancer Screening, X-rays and Pathology. The Child Maternity wing will have three birthing rooms, emergency area and child immunization services.

The project when completed will serve more than 35,000 people.

It has been made possible through the collaboration amongst the National Government via the National Department of Health, the Australian Government, MKA, NCD Provincial Health Authority, the United Church and NCDC.

The project will complement well infrastructure investments the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) has been making in the Motu Koitabu villages.

“My contribution to this event now is to thank the Australian Government and the people of Australia for contributing immensely to this project that will have a great benefit to our people here at our big village, Hanuabada and its surrounding but also the wider Motu and Koitabu villages and the city,” said Governor Parkop.

Speaking during the project’s construction opening yesterday (Tuesday April 26, 2023), Governor Parkop extended his appreciation to the Australians for their sacrifices in defence of our country during World War II.

The construction launch also coincided with the ANZAC Day celebrations.

Governor Parkop was invited to the occasion by his Deputy and MKA chairman Dadi Toka Jnr.

Also in attendance were Prime Minister, James Marape and the Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Hon. Pat Conroy, local leaders and City Manager, Ravu Frank.

Senator Conroy was in attendance representing the Australian Government and people and.

Thanking the Australian Government as well, Mr Toka said this project will give the people of Motu Koita a well-deserved service after waiting for a long time.

“Today marks an important milestone for the traditional landowners of the city. We embark on the crucial pathway of improved health services in our villages.

The construction of a Health Facility at Metoreia has been talked about for many decades. But sometimes we just need to believe that God has a plan. God has his own timing,” said Toka.

Meanwhile, PM Marape announced K10 million to partner NCDC and Moresby North-West DDA in upgrading the Motu Koitabu Villages.
