NCDC MAINTAINS SUPPORT TO PORT MORESBY SOCCER ASSOCIATION

The National Capital District Commission (NCDC) affirms its ongoing support for soccer in the city, as declared by the Governor of National Capital District, Hon. Powes Parkop, during the Grand Final of the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) competition season 2023.

Accompanying Governor Parkop were his executive officer, Dr. Newton Albert, NCDC Community and Social Services Director Janet Haua, Acting Sports Desk Manager Dianne Paliau, and Sports Officer Simon Nuabo.

Governor Parkop, taking a break from his hectic schedule, attended the PMSA Division One Grand Final between City Strikers FC and Solomon United at Bisini Soccer Grounds on Sunday.

Both City Strikers FC and Solomon United have earned promotion to the Premier Division of the PMSA competition in 2024.

"As the Patron and Governor of our Capital City, I assure everyone that we will consistently support PMSA from the Premier Division down to all lower divisions," Governor Parkop affirmed.

He disclosed that PMSA, being the current leading premier soccer competition in the country, plans to field a team in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Professional League in 2025, starting with a men's team and later incorporating a women's team.

Governor Parkop also revealed that NCDC Sports Desk is collaborating with PMSA to establish a suburban soccer competition in 2024, which he envisions becoming a feeder league for all PMSA teams, both for men and women.

Expressing hope that the suburban soccer competition will kick off in 2024, Governor Parkop sees it as NCDC's contribution to fostering football as a significant platform for the city's youth to pursue their dreams and contribute to the national team.

Governor Parkop expressed disappointment with the low turnout at the PMSA Grand Final and urged his executives to enhance communication and marketing strategies to attract families and children back to soccer.

In addition, Governor Parkop extended congratulations to the women's national soccer team for clinching their sixth Gold Medal in the 2023 Pacific Games.

"As the Governor and Patron of PMSA, our heartfelt congratulations to the Pacific champions, the PNG National Women's Team. Winning the Pacific Games Gold Medal six times in a row is a remarkable record and legacy that we must continue," Governor Parkop emphasized.

He emphasized the importance of inspiring girls and women across the country to pursue their dreams, particularly in soccer.
