I trust you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families and a well-deserved break ready and refreshed to take on 2024.

It is my fervent hope that at one point in time as 2023 was coming to a close, we took a moment to reflect on the year that was and took stock of our lives personally and professionally. I hope that this process of reassessment was done with determination and vigor and with a compelling intention to get the wrongs right and to maintain what we did best or better still increase our success rates in the New Year.

If you have not done so yet, I would request that we make time to undergo this personal assessment process in the early days of the New Year. I consider this important to measure our progress in life and review accordingly with the necessary adjustments for a better life ahead as we prepare to trod down the road of 2024.

Obvious to this call would be the inclination to take new and better approaches to this new year for the envied success and prosperity in life. Where we failed last year, let us improve this year for success with the desired outcomes.

It is all about reviewing and strategizing this year to achieve our goals and objectives. And as we begin this brand new year, it is timely that we start thinking of new approaches to our living. The emphasis is on improving what we did not do right, what we did not complete, and where we failed.

The core of my message is about a change in attitude in all of us to see improvements in our work and our personal lives for better results in 2024. It’s all about taking a new approach, with a new mindset and new determination and commitment to fulfill our goals and ambitions this year.

Let us release old habits that have hindered our progress for many years now. Habits that have become embedded in us and have developed into strong cultures. It is high time that we break these cultural barriers to progress with new attitudes and styles.

This call I am making in the New Year compliments my undertaking to instill professionalism in the Commission and this all boils down to our atti-
tudes to work. I have stressed and may have overly stressed high standards, quality, and timely outputs of our services to the benefit of our city and its residents.

We owe the city residents the best in services and this can only come with professionalism and a professional attitude to our work and life in general.

Needless for me to remind you of our municipal obligation to the city residents but let me do so on this timely occasion at the beginning of the year and as we prepare to undertake the commitments of the New Year.

A new approach to work is what I envisage from everyone this year and from a perspective to improve on our downfalls and failures and to achieve what we failed to achieve in 2023 in 2024.

Let us continue to communicate in dialogue with each other on how best we can all work together to deliver municipal services to the best of our ability and to the high satisfaction of the city residents who shall remain our first and foremost priority in the execution of our respective responsibilities.

Importantly necessary for this occasion, I remind you all of the desire of the NCDC Board for a planned, safe, clean, and healthy city and the expec-
tation for all of us to achieve. As the City Manager, I will continue to take directives from the NCDC Board for the management to implement in this new year 2024.

There is no room for complacency in the Commission. The days of complacency are long gone and it is time to work. It is time to work hard to earn our salaries and related employment benefits through sheer hard work through the most ethical, truthful, and honest means.

The basic work principles of punctuality, constant attendance, attention to work, and decent dressing form the core of a professional approach to work and must be upheld at all times. I call for a big improvement in these areas in the new year.

Let us settle into 2024 with renewed mindsets and a fresh approach to work to complete what we are required to provide in service to the City of Port Moresby and its residents.

The residents of Port Moresby deserve the best in service, let us give them the best service we possibly can.

Let us take a new perspective on life in 2024.
