Closure of 9 Mile Cemetery Access Road

The National Capital District Commission as the Cemetery Authority of NCD is greatly concerned with the increasing number of unauthorized vehicles/persons using the Cemetery access road for entry into the settlement and conducting activities unrelated to cemetery and loitering.

The general public and especially the 9 Mile Community is hereby advised that, one (1) month as of the 31st August 2020, the main access gate to the cemetery will be closed and restricted to cemetery clients with approved burial documents only and those paying visit to relatives grave sites.

Activities other than cemetery related within the vicinity of the cemetery must cease effective as of the time specified above and as stipulated under  Section 30 of the “Cemeteries Act (Chapter 302)” which states that it is an offence for;

Any person, who within a Cemetery-

  1. Sells or buys anything; or
  2. Distributes a hand bill, card, circular or advertisement; or
  3. Takes part in a meeting other a meeting of religious or commemorative character; or
  4. Disturbs a funeral service at a grave whether by working or playing in the neighborhood or otherwise; or
  5. Except at a military funeral – discharges a firearm; or
  6. Wantonly damages or disturbs a monument, flower or token placed or erected on a grave; or
  7. Commits a riot, breach of peace or nuisance or otherwise offends against decency or decorum,

is guilty of an offence.

The general public is further advised to stop constructing residential dwellings, gardening, setting up market stalls and partaking in sporting activities within the boundaries and vicinity of the cemetery area unless authorized by the Authority.

This NOTICE is necessary pursuant to “The Cemeteries Act (Chapter 302)” of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.

The general public is encouraged to co - operate with NCDC and refrain from conducting restricted activities and assist care for the up keep of the Cemetery.

NCDC and its enforcement agencies will not hesitate to forcefully remove offenders who continue to disregard lawful directions by this authority.
