Banning of Public Activities

In line with the State of Emergency declared by the National Government in regards to the Corona Virus, the National Capital District Commission as the municipal authority of Port Moresby City is obliged to comply with the directives of the State of Emergency and to act accordingly.

For the purpose of the State of Emergency and in particular to prevent and contain the spread of the Corona Virus in line with the preventive measures of minimising large crowds and social distancing, the following public activities will be stopped with immediate effect of the State of Emergency as declared.

  • All church activities where the assembly of a crowd is expected
  • All roadside vending is prohibited. Selling of garden food on road side will be moved to the approved markets.
  • Any public trading of second hand clothing and artifacts.
  • Any public meetings

NCDC will be ensuring best hygiene practises are applied by shop owners who will be required to do the following;

  • Adequate crowd control in compliance with social distancing and overcrowding
  • Provide essential sanitizers for shoppers
  • Ensure the relevant facilities of the shop are frequently sprayed and wiped
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidy appearance of the shop, its front and the interior in accordance with health requirements.

The listed activities will be closely monitored and those who defy this requirement will be dealt with accordingly.

NCDC encourages the public to ensure good hygiene practise as we all work towards preventing and containing the virus to allow for normalcy in the city.
